Old Westbury Gardens Wedding
They say you can’t find happiness at the bottom of a beer, but Ahisha, the bride in this story, can prove anyone wrong. She met Kiialoni the day after her sister's wedding at an outdoor festival at PS1, and accepted when he offered to buy her a beer even if she hated drinking the stuff. When he noticed she was not taking any sips, he ribbed her and challenged her to chug her drink (after all, he had gone through so much trouble to get it on such a hot and croweded day). Thankfully, Ahisha did chug it, Kiialoni loved it, and ten years later I was shooting their wedding.
The engineer (her) and the graphic designer (him) said their “I do’s” at the beautiful Harbor Club at Prime in Huntington, a great waterfront venues on Long Island. The green, idyllic setting provided a gorgeous backdrop for their wedding photos. The smiling bride, Ahisha, holding her amazing DIY pink and purple bouquet and the emotional Kiialoni were surrounded by family and friends on their big day. I loved shooting the two creatives having the time of their lives dancing to their favorite hip-hop and R&B songs (including Milli Vanilli). And Kiialoni did great, even if Ahisha admits he is shy in front of crowds and even more amazing when no one is watching. On off days, Kiialoni likes to ride his bike around the city and Ahisha loves to dance and read, but what really binds these two together is their laughter. And their sense of humor that has fuelled their relationship over the past ten years emerged on their wedding day, as they kept smiling throughout the night.
It was about time these soul-mates and best friends tied the knot, and I was really proud to be the one capturing their happiness forever.
